Centaur class have had an extremely busy 3 months at school, full of exciting learning opportunities across all aspects of the curriculum. Here are just a few highlights.

History

We have begun this academic year with possibly one of the most exciting and interesting History topics - The Romans! A whole 12 weeks is still not enough to learn all about this exciting civilisation, and the legacy they left in Britain. Some of our favourite parts have included learning about the power and force of the Roman Army, Boudicca's rebellion, finding out all about the Gods and Goddesses they worshipped, the settlements and towns they build and of course participating in our hands on Roman enrichment day in school. We also took part in a re-enactment on the playground to help us understand Julius Caesar's attempted invasions. We have learned lots and brought our experiences to life in many different ways.

Design and Technology

This half term we have been enjoying working on a practical project - to design and build a castle for a particular purpose. Our structures have had to be strong and sturdy, use a mixture of packaging materials and 3D shape nets, have a flagpole and a drawbridge and reflect the personality of the person we are designing it for. We have been working well in pairs on this project, developing teamwork and negotiation skills along the way. Here are some of our completed castles.

Well done Centaur class - have a well-deserved rest over Christmas ready for another busy term in January. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Year 3 and 4 have had an immensely busy Summer Term with lots of fantastic learning experiences, topped off with a 2 night residential. We are certainly all ready for a summer break!

RE

In RE, we have been learning all about the Sikh faith. We had the opportunity to visit the Northampton Gurdwara, where we learned all about the core beliefs of Sikhism, had a talk in the Prayer Hall, including a close up demonstration of the Guru Granth Sahib, and had a meal served to us in the Langar Hall. It was a really enriching experience and really brought the Sikh faith to life helping us to reflect more knowledgeably back in the classroom.

History

Our History this term has taken us to the exciting lands of Ancient Egypt where we have immersed ourselves in this interesting civilisation. We have learned all about the Egyptian way of life, importance of the Nile, the significance of Cleopatra and King Tutankhamun and cultures of the Ancient Egyptians. We were lucky to be able to visit Leicester New Walk Museum, where we had the opportunity to handle lots of primary sources of evidence to give us more of a glimpse into the past.

Everdon Residential

What an amazing experience!! Although some of us were nervous about being away from home for 2 nights and 3 days, we overcame our worries and had a fantastic time! We were very physically active, went on long walks to the woodlands to develop our teamwork, problem-solving and survival skills. We even were allowed to shoot water pistols at Mrs Evans and Mr Umney!  Lots of memories were made on our first overnight trip away with school, and we helped supported one another showing friendship, resilience and sheer determination!  We are all super proud of oursleves and had a fabulous time!
