"Year 3 and 4 have had an incredibly busy term, with a jam-packed curriculum and exciting enrichment opportunities. In Geography, the children's imaginations have been thoroughly captured during our "Volcanoes and Earthquakes" unit of work. They have learned all about the physical geography of volcanoes and developed their map skills when locating the major volcano clusters around the world. This has led onto deeper learning about the causes of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, and an introduction to the tectonic plates and their boundaries. The children have also completed case studies on the Indonesian and Japanese earthquakes of 2004 and 2011 and have been deeply interested in the recent developments in the news of the Icelandic earthquake and volcanic eruption, and the one in Asia. This has really brought their learning to life in a real world context.

The children have also participated in a Science trip to Holdenby House, to enrich their learning on "Living things and their habitats". They were able to participate in habitat mapping and used classification keys to identify invertebrates they found in the woodland. This has supported their learning in the classroom on characteristics of living things, and how classification keys work.

Our artwork this term has also added to our learning on living things. We have learned how and where designers get their inspiration for their work and focused particularly on the work on William Morris. The children have created mood boards and textile batik artwork based on the rainforest, thinking about pattern, shape, colour and texture. Some super work has been produced! Well done Year 3 and 4!
